The Waters of Israel: Mediterranean Sea

Here's a look at the Mediterranean Sea from Haifa.

From Mt. Carmel:

Just chilling at the beach:

Does this sun look like a hexagon to anyone else but me? I find this interesting, considering the shape in the middle of the Star of David is the hexagon, which means it is the center of the Israeli flag.

Israel: Service Project: Haifa

We spent several days in Haifa. First, we spoke to people in a busy square, sharing the gospel with them and praying for them.

We split up into small groups to help around a retirement home. My group finished painting the bomb shelter. During the war with Lebanon, they had to go to the bomb shelter about 5 times a day "until the bomb hit," which was usually about 20 minutes.

Another service project was cleaning the walls and floors of the hallways of an apartment complex where Holocaust survivors reside. They spoke Russian and Hebrew (no English), but a smile as an expression of gratitude is universal.

This wasn't technically a service project, but to bless the congregation that housed us during our stay in Haifa, we sang "Amazing Grace" during their Sabbath service. To give you an idea of how diverse our team was, "Amazing Grace" was the only song we all knew!

Israel: Service Project: Eilat

In Eilat, we helped take care of the African refugee children, although I don't know if you can really call playing with cute children "work"...

We also helped at "The Shelter," which is a youth hostel for believers. Every Friday night (the beginning of the Sabbath) they host a service with people from all over the world. The languages spoken there include Hebrew, English, Russian, Spanish, and an African language.

Israel: Service Project: Arad

In Arad, the congregation meets in a home. We helped clean up, sweep, paint, and build a fence. But the best part of the visit was worshiping together with the pastor and sharing our favorite Bible verses.

Israel: Service Project: Jerusalem

For our first service project, we organized a basement storage closet of a congregation in Jerusalem. It took 4 hours for 12 people to take stuff out, clean, throw away, and bring what was left back in.
